Our Games Through Your Eyes, February

We have had such a wonderful month interacting with the Weird Giraffe Games community! You all are just so supportive and fun!

With the New Year has come new lists, like top board games of 2022 and best board games coming to retail! It is awesome seeing all the wonderful new additions to the board game world, and what people are getting to their game table. It’s also exciting to see Weird Giraffe Games making some of those lists!

Board Again Games (2022 Top 20)

Board Again Games chose Wicked & Wise as one of their top 20 of 2022! Christopher says: “I really enjoy the fine balancing acts this game can provide, and I want to play it more. The mice really must be nimble. Thematically, it makes sense that the Dragons are playing with giant thumbs (claws?) on the pressure of the game in terms of general goal selection while mice have the finesse of final selection.” You can read the full post here!

Board Games, Paint & Handstands (Top 10 games of 2022)

We spotted Gift of Tulips as Board Games, Paint & Handstands celebrated 3500 Instagram followers with a handstand and her top 10 games of 2022! Congratulations on the milestone!

Grant’s Game Recs (Best Board Games Coming to Retail)

Wicked & Wise is on Grant Lyon’s list of best board games coming to retail in February of 2023.

“I’ve played a bunch of cooperative trick-taking games, I’ve played competitive ones, this is the only team based one I’ve heard about. I like trick-taking a lot so I’m excited to check it out for sure.”

You can hear more about Wicked & Wise and the rest of his list below.

The Cardboard Cantina (Top 5 favorite games)

We love being tagged on our socials and hearing all about how you’re celebrating and playing board games. The Cardboard Cantina celebrated Mardi Gras in the best of ways, with festive food, entertainment, and Big Easy Busking!

“Big Easy Busking quickly took a spot on my list of top five favorite games. Though I’ve played hundreds of different games since originally writing my preview, Big Easy Busking has held its place on that list. The theme is so unique and well-executed that I couldn’t wait to be a backer and have continued to support this game since before its arrival on my doorstep.” – Krista, The Cardboard Cantina

That cake looks tasty and so colorful, Krista! I’m going to have to try that recipe!

Speaking of Big Easy Busking and Mardi Gras… On the 18th we had a whole day of streaming which you can still check out on our Twitch channel. Many guests joined us, and a lot of people stopped by in chat to ask questions and hang out! It was such a fun way to spend a Saturday, getting to know people and celebrate Weird Giraffe Games and its great community of supporters. It was a nice schedule of events!

We started out with Big Easy Busking as Mardi Gras was just around the corner! We learned about upcoming projects, chatted with friends and some of the Weird Giraffe Games team. We played Explosion in the Laboratory with Corey and Rachel, Gift of Tulips with Amanda Panda, and Jess and her husband David played Wicked & Wise. We planned on playing Dreams of Yesterday with designer Heather O’Neill but were having such a lovely chat about game design, publishing, and pitching ideas to publishers that time got away from us! We hope to have her back again soon to play it. Dreams of Yesterday is a lovely little 27-card, rondel, set collection microgame coming to BackerKit on March 21st. You can sign up here to be notified when the campaign is live.

Christopher from boardagaingames is bringing all the colors of the rainbow to the table with cards from Dreams of Yesterday.

We love all the shares we are seeing on Instagram this month. Show us those photos!

Adri from wanderer_meeple was showing the love on Valentine’s Day with cards from Gift of Tulips!
Matsuri says “We love board games and hedgehogs.” Well, we adore seeing your hedgehogs playing with the dice tower in Tumble Town! How cute is that?!

We appreciate the tags, reviews, ratings, photos, chats, and comments the Weird Giraffe Games community continues to share. Thank you! Keep them coming, they bring us great joy seeing them, and we love to highlight them here for others to see as well!
