Our Games Through Your Eyes, January

We LOVE seeing our games out in the wild and finding their way to game shelves all around the world! So, in an effort to encourage everyone to share, we decided to highlight a few of our favorite sightings around the interwebs.

Rachel (@Herald Selenay) posted a Fire in the Library Challenge on BoardGameGeek using a promo card they previously created for the game. How cool is that?!  You can find the fan promo card Esther’s Ghost here if you want to print and add it to your copy of Fire in the Library. It’s always fun having a new excuse to bring an old favorite out to play as frequently as possible. Those books won’t save themselves! Keep an eye out on BoardGameGeek, as Rachel loves to post challenges to find more mutual fans of the game.

We were delighted to see Wicked & Wise featured on a recent episode of Stonemaier Games: My Favorite Mechanism Series.

“This is a magnum opus of trick-taking game design! It is really, really incredible what Fertessa did with Wicked & Wise. I really enjoyed my first play, and I can’t wait to get it back to the table.”

Jamey Stegmaier, Stonemaier Games

We couldn’t miss all the fun happenings over on TikTok. GrantsGameRecs included Gift of Tulips in a list of 5 great stocking stuffers. You can check the list out here.

“If you know somebody that’s like, “I don’t like games they’re too mean!” well then give them Gift of Tulips. This is a really pretty card game, and you score points for giving flower cards to other players. It’s just nice!”

Grant Lyon, GrantsGameRecs

TheAzkadorkableGamer made a confession we can relate to…

I’ve never told anyone this before, but… I’m addicted to Weird Giraffe Games.

Are you addicted to Weird Giraffe Games too? Go tell AzkadorableGamer they’re not alone!

Ratings and Pictures

Two of the most meaningful things you can do for us after you play one of our games is to post a picture of yourself playing the game on social media or BGG and to rate the game on BGG. It’s so amazing to see people having fun playing Weird Giraffe Games because it means we have brought you joy, which is why we make games in the first place! If you choose to post a picture, please tag us (@weirdgiraffes on twitter and Weird Giraffe Games on Facebook)!

You can rate any Weird Giraffe Games game by finding its Board Game Geek page here. Then, you can select how many stars you want to rate it. If you hover over the stars, it will give you a description of what each number means. We really appreciate you taking the time to rate the games you play!

Gift of Tulips is a charming little game. The theme helps explain the “Giving is worth more points than keeping” concept and the hidden market adds some unpredictable spice into the end game scoring.” – DonnieDynamo, BoardGameGeek Rating (Gift of Tulips)

“Quick, simple, clever, fun.” – Klawton, BoardGameGeek Rating (Gift of Tulips)

“This is very eloquent. Love the mechanic where you gift cards. Player interaction without a take that element is refreshing.” – sineadk, BoardGameGeek Rating (Gift of Tulips)

“A beautiful card game with interesting strategy. It has great play while you are trying to balance between sending flowers to market which drives up their value, keeping them for your own garden which gives you points later, or gifting tulips to other players for immediate points. Fun at 2 players. Definitely a game we will be playing over and over.” – PlayingWithHoney, BoardGameGeek Rating (Gift of Tulips)

“Played great with 4 players! We really enjoyed it! Would play it again! We have heard reviews where they thought the mouse didn’t have a big enough role that is untrue, they can help or hinder the dragon greatly. A little confusing the first round but we combatted that by playing one beginner round with everyone’s cards faceup and discussed moves then we played the full game blind. All four of us loved it.” – HollaMonkey, BoardGameGeek Rating (Wicked & Wise)

“I don’t like trick taking games and I loved this. So much more going on than a normal trick taking game, but not so much as to be overwhelming.” – Frogodo, BoardGameGeek Rating (Wicked & Wise)

“One of my favorite games to play. Love the unique take on area control. Requires planning several turns in advance and paying close attention to what other players are doing. Still hoping to find a group who likes it as much as I do.” – sffc, BoardGameGeek Rating (Big Easy Busking)

Kalchio on BoardGameGeek has taken the most beautiful photos over the years, (see below). We are always thrilled to see our games through your very artistic eye Eric! You can see reviews, and more lovely photography on the blog What’s Eric Playing?

We have loved hearing your stories, and it makes our day to know that you enjoy playing our games! We sincerely appreciate you sharing your kind words, thoughts, videos, and photos.

Thank You!
